The proposed development is to be located within the Town of Canmore Growth Boundary, directly adjacent to and east of Spray Lakes Road (Highway 742), with Rundleview Drive to the south, and Rundleview Estates to the east.
The site secured for this development was one of the parcels up for lease by the Alberta Government. On December 1, 2022, the project team made an application to lease the site under the Tourism and Commercial Recreation use, and the application was approved on April 8, 2024. The site has been leased through the Province of Alberta Public Lands Act for a term of 60 years.
The site is public land and owned by the Alberta Government. Since 2011, the Alberta Government has been leasing parcels of public land for uses that are “beneficial to the local community and Albertans”, whether that be recreational, commercial or industrial. In 2019, Tourism and Commercial Recreation was added as an approved use of public land.
